PACIFIC RIM Board Game Idea
the map is the Pacific Rim (obviously)
if there are 2 players, one plays kaiju and other plays Jaegers a.k.a the entire Pacific Rim countries
if there are more than 2 players, you even it up and you can choose a starter country if you are on Jaegers, which also determines your starting Jaeger. For example, if you start as Japan, you get Tacit Ronin as your first Jaeger
For kaiju, it's different. You get 3 starter kaiju, and you can only pick one. These 3 have different stats. Think of Pokemon Starters. Basically you can evolve this kaiju to make it better. This can be used strategically. If you started out with a slow kaiju, you can evolve him to make faster and more balanced.
Battling :
To start an attack, a kaiju has to select which country to attack. If there is a Jaeger stationed there, they battle (explained later on). If there is none, then the kaiju attacks the cities. Each country has 3 cities. Each city takes 3 turns to be destroyed. During this, the Jaeger team can either move a Jaeger to that country or deploy him there. Deploying him battles the kaiju, but takes 1 turn to move to the country based on how many countries far apart they are. Once a kaiju and Jaeger start battling, both teams roll a dice to either defend or attack. If you attack, whichever number you roll on is how many HP you take off plus 1/2 of your Jaeger/Kaijus attack power. Half of the kaiju/jaegers armor subtracts the HP taken off. Round to nearest whole number.
Armor also determines how much HP you have. Take armor and multiply it by 8 is the Jaeger/Kaijus HP.
When you defend instead of attack, you take how much damage the enemy would do if he attacked, and divide it by 3.
Also, if you roll a 1, 2 or 3, you take no damage. 4,5,6 means you do the entire equation thing I said in the beginning of this paragraph.
Upgrading :
Obviously you can't have a Mark 1 Jaeger forever. Every 3 turns, you gain 100 K-Points, which is used to upgrade. You can either upgrade a Jaegers stats or you can save up to build an entirely new Jaeger. It cost 100 points to upgrade one of your Jaeger/Kaijus stats by 1. When you build a Jaeger or Kaiju, you take an evolvement card from a card deck. There are 2 decks to represent kaiju and Jaegers. The evolvement is entirely random, and it could add anything. For example, if I get a StingBlades card from the Jaeger deck, I can add it to the new Jaeger, which gives it a 2+ attack buff. You use a spreadsheet or your own paper to keep track of how many K-Points you have.
To build a Jaeger or Kaiju, you have to have atleast 300 K-Points to make one. When you choose to make one, you take a special 10-sided dice and roll it. Whatever you get determines the Jaeger or Kaijus stats. First roll is Power, Second Roll is Armor, and Third Roll is Speed. What kind of Jaeger or Kaiju you make depends on the Mark or Category.
Mark 1 : 1 roll for each stat
Mark 2 : 2 rolls for each stat
Mark 3 : 3 rolls for each stat
Mark 4 : 4 rolls for each stat
Mark 5 : 5 rolls for each stat.
There is also a cap for each stat. Power, Armor, and Speed's values combined cannot exceed 30 for Mark 5 Jaeger or Kaijus. The cap is 20 for Mark 4s and below.
Also, you can make your own name for the kaiju or a Jaeger. You can also choose which country it starts in. It takes 5 turns to complete a Jaeger or Kaiju. Go crazy.
Cities :
These are vital because each country has a factory in each city. If it is destroyed, that country cannot make anymore Jaegers. If all cities are wiped out, the country is lost. If not all the cities are destroyed, only some, the same amount of cities destroyed is added to another country of the Jaeger teams choosing. This can speed up production in a country by stacking cities, but it also makes it a big target.
The Breach : Yes, the one and only breach. Jaeger Team can choose to attack the breach whenever they want. First, Jaegers must spend 400 K-Points to research a method of getting into the Breach. This takes 2 turns. Once that is done, you can choose the amount of Jaegers to deploy to the Breach. The kaiju can do the same, but only to defend it. When the Jaegers appear at the Breach (takes 1 turn), the battling is the other way around. Now kaiju defend and Jaegers attack. If Jaegers are successful, they ride into the breach and destroy it. If not, all the Jaegers that participated are destroyed. This makes it a high risk - high reward mission.
